Steven Sanchez is the author of Phantom Tongue (Sundress Publications, 2018), selected by Mark Doty as the winner of the Rochelle Ratner Memorial Award. He is also the author of two chapbooks: To My Body (Glass Poetry Press, 2016) and Photographs of Our Shadows (Agape Editions, 2017). A CantoMundo Fellow, Lambda Literary Fellow, and winner of the inaugural Federico García Lorca Poetry Prize, his poems have appeared in North American Review, American Poetry Review, Winter Tangerine, Poet Lore, RHINO, and elsewhere.
Sanchez holds an MFA in Creative Writing from California State University, Fresno where his thesis won the College of Arts & Humanities Outstanding Thesis Award. He completed a residency at the Civitella Ranieri Foundation and has been selected as a resident for Show Us Your Spines, an inititiave geared towards supporting Queer artists of color, sponsored by Radar Productions and the James C. Hormel LGBTQIA center. He currently serves as a poetry reader for The Rumpus.
